Acne is extremely common especially if you have oily skin. Acne can be really stubborn and it can leave behind dark spots and scarring which can further make your skin look textured and uneven. Dealing with acne is no joke and it can have long term effects on confidence as well. If you have acne prone skin, you might have already tried out a number of skin care products and routines to clear up your skin! But, if nothing ever worked for you, here I have a very simple DIY acne cream recipe for you to try-

Aloe Gel- Aloe Vera gel is super hydrating and it has anti inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It helps keep your skin clear and flawless by fighting acne and redness. It has a soothing effect that helps heal inflamed acne super quick. Aloe Vera gel also makes a great base in this recipe.

Basil leaves- Basil leaves, also known as holy basil in India is quite well known as a skin purifying ingredient. It purifies skin and inhibits acne causing bacteria and fungus. Unclogs the pores and keeps acne from appearing. Helps heal active acne and prevent scarring and dark spots. Basil also has can detoxing effects. This is a great ingredient if you have problematic skin.

Tea Tree Oil- Adding tea tree oil in this recipe is actually optional but if you can use it, it’s the best! Tea tree oil inhibits acne causing microbes and keep skin clear in a long run. It purifies skin and is a great ingredient for problematic skin. Tea tree oil also keeps away whiteheads and black heads and prevent them from progressing to active acne.

RECIPE FOR DIY ACNE CREAM:

Things you need-

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of commercial aloe vera gel (If aloe vera gel does not suit you, feel free to use any gentle gel based moisturizer that works for your skin type)
  • Few fresh basil leaves
  • Few drops tea tree essential oil (Optional)

Directions-

To start, you first need to crush fresh basil leaves with some water using a mortar pestle. Squeeze the paste to extract fresh basil juice. Now, in a bowl mix together aloe vera gel or a gel based moisturizer with this freshly prepared basil  juice until it is well emulsified and homogeneous. Add in few drops of tea tree essential oil if you want and mix it again. Transfer this prepared acne cream to an easy to use jar and use it as and when required. Best used before sleeping as an overnight treatment.

NOTE:

  • Always Patch test before using any natural remedy or products to make sure that you are not allergic to it.
  • Never use essential oils directly on skin and for hair comma always use them diluted with a carrier oil or mixed with other ingredients.
  • If you are lactating, pregnant or suffer from a serious health condition, always consult your doctor before using any natural remedy or product.
  • Remedies and products do not show results instantly, you need to stick to it for a longer period to see any effect.
  • Avoid touching your face frequently to avoid bacteria transfer that can further cause acne. Disinfect your mobile screen few times a day using disinfectant wipes to prevent acne.
